Jack Nicholas was a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, along with 1900 Upton Park team-mate Tom Burridge. They both had distinguished military careers and Nicholas served in the Far East during World War I, reaching the rank of Major and was honoured with the OBE. Nicholas’s tour with Upton Park to France in 1900 was his only one for the club, yet he scored two goals in the 4-0 win over France. He was a regular with Slough FC and the RCVS teams at the time.
