The following March she won her first doubles title when she was paired with compatriot Kateřina Sisková in Moncalieri, Italy. On the WTA Tour Makarova was a two-time singles runner-up, with the first coming at the 1995 Kremlin Cup, and the second at the 1997 Internazionali Femminili di Palermo tournament.
