Ali Beier was referred to as the “king of punts.” He was a robust-tackling defender with Hamburger SV and was a German Champion in 1923 and 1928. In 1924 the defender made the national team, with the high point of his career coming in the 1928 Olympic football tournament, where he played in both matches. Beier ended his career with 11 caps. He owned a delicatessen shop in Hamburg.
