Eugen Kipp

Eugen Kipp earned 18 caps with the German national team between 1908 and 1913, scoring 10 goals, and twice acted as team captain. He played for Sportfreunde Stuttgart (1901-1912) and Stuttgarter Kickers (1912-1914). In World War I he was severely hurt near Ypres, Belgium, losing his right leg right above his knee, and also receiving bayonet slashes to his jaw and shoulder. He never fully recovered from his wounds and died in 1931 at the age of 46.

During his lifetime he was one of only two football players ever to be awarded the Adlerplakette, at that time the highest sport decoration in Germany. His same-named son also became a well-known football player in Germany.
