Francisco Gras exhibited in his hometown for the first time at the age of 16. He studied with the Spanish impressionist Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida and began as a portrait painter. Later, Gras undertook several study trips to Italy and then went to Paris. During this time he probably took part in the art competitions and was therefore assigned to France. In 1932, he moved to Palma de Mallorca and finally went to Algeria in 1937. He painted portraits and landscapes, mostly in pastel and oil.
