Paul Jobert

Paul Jobert was a French painter born in Algeria. He had studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Algiers and later in Paris. He specialized in portrait painting and marine art. From 1891, he became an official marine painter. As such, he was characterised by the representation of military and/or historical scenes, the technical accuracy of which made them true documents.

In 1894 Jobert married a very wealthy American woman, Philomena Lynch, who paved the way for him in the United States. In 1914 he volunteered for World War I and spent three years at the front. After never losing contact with Algeria, he regularly continued to take public and private contracts there.
