Raúl Cárdenas competed for Mexico at the 1948 Olympics and at three FIFA World Cups, in 1954, 1958, and 1962. He started playing with Real Club España in 1947, playing with them for three seasons, later joining CD Guadalajara, Club Deportivo Marte, Puebla FC, and finishing his career with Zacatepec for 10 seasons. Cárdenas then became a coach of Cruz Azul, helping them win five titles in seven years. He also coached the Mexican National Team at the 1970 FIFA World Cup, and managed Club America.
