Biography

Aleksandr Filippov’s family owned several bakeries in Moskva (Moscow). In 1907, at the age of 15, he was one of the founding members of the KVS football club and later became the team captain. In 1910, he joined the RGO Sokol football team and represented the team at the founding meetings of the first official championship (MFL) in Moscow. The club belonged to the Russian branch of the Eastern European Sokol gymnastics movement. When Sokol withdrew from the MFL, Filippov returned to KVS later in the same year spent his entire football career with KVS until 1918. Playing as a forward, he placed second in the 1918 Moscow Championship with his club. Nevertheless, he continued to captain the RGO Sokol bandy team for two seasons (1911-13).

Filippov made his début for the Russian national team at the 1912 Olympic tournament playing their first match against Finland. Later in 1912 and in 1914, he won two more caps representing Russia.
