Anatoly Isayev won a gold medal with the Soviet team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, beating Yugoslavia, 1-0, in the final. In the knock-out rounds they also beat the favored German team, 2-1. From 1953-62 Isayev played soccer for Spartak Moscow and won Soviet titles in 1953, 1956, 1958 and 1962. In 1958 Spartak Moscow also won the Soviet Cup. Isayev earned 16 international cups and scored six goals. After his active career he became a well-known coach in the Soviet Union and later in Russia. In 1990 he had two short stints with the Iraqi Olympic team and the Soviet one.
