Carin Gabarra played in college at UC Santa Barbara, as Carin Jennings, where in 1984 she set NCAA D-1 single-season records for most goals (34), most points (80), most goals/game (1.55), and most points/game (3.64). A striker, Gabarra (then Jennings) set career NCAA records for most goals (102), most assists (60), points (264), goals/game (1.29), assists/game (076), and points/game (3.34).
Gabarra graduated in 1987 and then played on the US National Team from 1987-1996. She earned 117 caps and scored 53 international goals. Gabarra won gold medals with the USA team at the 1991 World Cup and the 1996 Olympic Games. She also played at the 1995 World Cup, where the US team lost in the semi-finals to Norway. She retired after the Atlanta Olympics.
Gabarra became a soccer coach, with Westmount College in 1987 while she was still playing, and then as an assistant at Harvard. She later became the head soccer coach at the US Naval Academy. Gabarra was inducted into the UC Santa Barbara Hall of Fame and was named the school’s Athlete of the Decade for the 1980s.
