Steve Gay played in college at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, an NAIA school. He scored 88 goals in four seasons at Westmont. Gay played one season in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1975 with the Los Angeles Aztecs, and then became a soccer coach at UCLA, coaching there from 1975-79. After leaving the Bruins Gay started coaching youth soccer in Arizona. He was inducted into the NAIA Soccer Hall of Fame in 1977 and the Westmont Hall of Fame in 1995.
