The son of Macedonian immigrants, Jovan Kirovski was the first American to join Manchester United, signing with their youth team in 1992. As a senior he played for Man U from 1993-96, and then joined Borussia Dortmund, playing there from 1996-2000.
Internationally Kirovsky was named to the US National Team in 1994 and played at the 1996 Olympics, and the 1999 and 2003 Confederation Cup. He earned 62 caps in his career, playing as a forward.
After playing for Sporting CP in 2000-01, Crystal Palace in 2001-02, and Birmingham City in 2002-04, Kirovski signed with Major League Soccer (MLS), playing for the LA Galaxy in 2004-05, and the Colorado Rapids from 2005-08. He then played for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2008 and finished his career back with the Galaxy, helping them win the MLS Cup in 2011.
Kirovski went into coaching, and as an assistant coach with the Galaxy in 2012, led them to another MLS Cup win. Late in 2013 he was named the Galaxy’s technical director and in 2018 was instrumental in getting them to sign Swedish soccer legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
