Biography

Manny Lagos was a soccer (football) midfielder who played in college at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He learned the game from his father, Buzz Lagos, a well-known American soccer coach. From 1990-96 he played for his father with the Minnesota Thunder. In 1996 he joined MLS (Major League Soccer) with the MetroStars. He played one season with the MetroStars and then in 1998 joined the Chicago Fire. He later played in MLS for the Tampa Bay Mutiny, San Jose Earthquakes, and the Columbus Crew, retiring in 2005.

In addition to his 1992 Barcelona Olympics appearance, Lagos played three games for the men’s national team in 2001-03. In 2006 he was named director of soccer operations for the Minnesota Thunder, and in 2010 he became manager of Minnesota United FC. Lagos was inducted into the Minnesota Thunder Hall of Fame in 1996.
