Ed Murphy

Ed Murphy had a long career with the US national team, earning 17 caps and scoring five goals between 1955-69. In club soccer he played most of his career with National Soccer League of Chicago clubs, mainly Maroon and Slovak. In 1953 he led the Slovaks to the National Amateur Cup title. He played professionally for one year in 1968 with the Chicago Mustangs of the North American Soccer League (NASL).

Murphy played on the US team at the 1956 Olympics. In 1959 he played on the bronze medal winning team at the Pan American Games, and scored a hat trick in the US victory over Brazil and added two goals in the bronze medal game against Mexico. He ended his career with the US national team in 1969 in qualifying matches for the 1970 FIFA World Cup. Murphy was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1998 and the USASA Hall of Fame in 2009.
