Clint Peay was a defender who played college soccer at the University of Virginia, where he helped them win the NCAA title all four years of his college career (1991-94). After playing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Peay had a brief career in Major League Soccer (MLS), playing from 1996-2000. Internationally he also played at the 1993 U-20 World Cup, the 1995 Pan American Games, and the 1995 Universiade.
Peay was a ninth-round pick of DC United in the 1996 MLS Draft. He played most of his career with them, although he was loaned briefly in 1998 to the Charleston Battery and, in 1999, to the Maryland Mania and the Northern Virginia Royals.
After his playing career ended, Peay became the television announcer for DC United. In 2003 he was named an assistant coach at Georgetown University, moving to Davidson College in 1994. He later coached briefly at George Mason University before becoming the head coach at the University of Richmond in 2009. Peay moved on in 2012, accepting a position with the US Men’s National Team.
