Biography

Archie Strimel was a goalkeeper who earned three caps with the US national team in 1948, including the 1948 Olympics. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball at Cecil High School, leading his team to the 1935 Pennsylvania Class B basketball championship. Strimel worked in coal mines before he was drafted into the Army in World War II. Strimel played for Curry Vets of Curry, Pennsylvania in 1948, helping them to a runner-up finish that year in the National Amateur Cup, losing to Ponta Delgada of Fall River, Massachusetts. He also played at times for Morgan Strasser and Pittsburgh Beadling. Strimel played some semi-pro baseball. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hal lof Fame in 2009.
