Felipe de la Pozas was recruited into basketball as a high school student by Miguel Llaneras. Pozas went on to win several youth tournaments and was then selected to represent Cuba in the tournament at the 1952 Helsinki Games. There, Cuba came second in its group in the qualification round, but was then eliminated in round one. Pozas also took part in the 1955 Pan American Games, where Cuba was fifth out of the six participating nations. Four years later, the nation was sixth among seven entrants. Pozas eventually moved to the United States and worked as an engineer in the construction and equipment industries. He is a member of the Cuban Basketball Hall of Fame.
