Switching between welterweight and light-middleweight during his entire career, Viljo Aho reached the third round as a welterweight at the 1960 Olympics, losing to Spaniard Andrés Navarro. Besides his Olympic appearance, Aho won light-middleweight bronze at the 1957 Nordic Championships, was Finnish light-middleweight champion in 1961, won silver at the 1960 and bronze at the 1957 Finnish Championships. His brother Matti also competed at the 1960 Olympics, as a light-heavyweight.
