Biography

Hans-Jürgen Geismar was a pioneer in volleyball refereeing in Germany and had a lengthy international career. Soon after completing his referee course, Geismar became a referee in the Bundesliga before being appointed to officiate in international matches. From 1971 to 1998 he was a mainstay at international tournaments, which included officiating matches at the 1972 München Olympics. With the Bavarian Volleyball Association he worked as a representative for instructors and as an examiner for those wishing to become referees. Geismar was awarded with multiple honours from the association during his career including the Badge of Honour in Silver in 2000.
