Biography

Éric Poujade was a French gymnast who represented SM Orléans and specialised in the pommel horse. In 1993 Poujade won gold in that discipline at the Summer Universiade, followed by silver at both the European and World Championships in 1994, earning himself a place on the French Olympic team. At the 1996 Atlanta Games he came seventh in his favoured event, along with 11th in the all-round team event. A year later he won another silver in the event at the World Championships before becoming the European champion in 1998. Poujade continued to be consistent and won silver at the 2000 European Championships and the Sydney Olympics. He retired from active competition the following year and worked as an ambassador of the sport.
