Gymnast Edgar Parsons was a rope climbing expert and was one of three members of the Halifax Recreative Evening School (RES) who competed at the 1908 Olympics. Edgar Dyson and J. F. Simpson were the others. Just before the Olympics, Parsons finished joint-third in the RES club rope climbing championship, which was won by fellow Olympian Simpson.
