Reginald Potts and his older half-brother Edward were in the Great Britain bronze-medal-winning team at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. Edward was also the English national champion that year. The siblings were also in the successful Northampton Polytechnic Institute (NPI) team that beat Birmingham City to win their first ever Adams Shield as national team champions in 1912, and again in 1913 when NPI retained the title. Reginald was on the losing side in 1914 when Birmingham avenged two successive defeats by beating NPI in the final. Potts was to emulate his brother that year, however, and capture the English national title.
Potts had another full brother, Henry, who was an honorary secretary and judge of the Amateur Wrestling Association between 1908-12 and was a gymnastics and wrestling judge at the 1908 London Olympics. He was also twice the Inter-Polytechnic high jump champion. Henry and Reginald both worked as clerks for the insurers, Lloyds of London.
