Georg Brustad won an Olympic bronze medal with the Norwegian team in gymnastics in the all-around Swedish system team event at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. Later, he turned to boxing and became Norwegian middleweight champion in 1916 and heavyweight champion in 1917 and 1918. Brustad became Norway’s first professional and had 22 bouts between 1918 and 1930, winning 10 and losing 5 with 7 draws.
During the 1920s, he also worked as a boxing instructor and trainer and was team leader and trainer for the Norway’s boxers at the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games. In boxing, he was a member of IF Ørnulf and later ran his own boxing club. Brustad also served as a referee in several professional bouts in Scandinavia. He contributed to sports magazines and wrote the chapters on boxing in handbooks in the early 1920s. Brustad was married to Bergliot Jakobsen; the couple had two daughters and a son.
