Herman Glass represented the Richmond YMCA at the 1904 Olympics. He started gymnastics in 1896 in Chicago upon a doctor’s advice and continued the sport when his family moved to Los Angeles a few years later. He moved to Richmond in 1903 and shortly thereafter injured his hand severely. This caused him to give up all other events and specialize only on the rings. Glass spent his working life as a bookbinder.
