Rowland “Flip” Wolfe was a member of the Dallas Athletic Club in 1932. He won the 1932 national championship in tumbling, as well as the Olympic gold medal. Initially, he also competed in wrestling and boxing. He ended his athletic career shortly after the Los Angeles Games. Wolfe first studied medicine, but could not complete his studies due to lack of funds. Later, he attended Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, receiving a degree in chemistry, and later worked on the Manhattan Project. After World War II he moved back to Texas where he worked in laboratory and chemical supply sales.
