Handball player Barbara Strass qualified with Austria for the 1992 Barcelona and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. On both occasions the team finished fifth. In total, she won 272 international caps (becoming Austrian’s most capped player) and scored 570 goals. Strass won a bronze medal at both the 1996 European and 1999 World Championships.
Strass played at club level with WAT Fünfhaus, Hypo Niederösterreich, and UHC Stockerau in Austria, later with Fredrikshavn IF in Denmark, and finally with 1. FC Nürnberg in Germany. Strtass helped Niederösterreich win the European Champions Cup 1992-95, and the Austrian League and Cup the same years. She also helped Nürnberg win the 2005 and 2007 German title and 2004 and 2005 German Cup.
Strass was a trained nurse but later turned to coaching and took over the Austrian female youth team.
