Defender Franz Bartl was a member of the Austrian field handball team that won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He played three matches during the tournament. Domestically, Bartl played with HC Alt-Turm Wien (Vienna). Sadly, he was killed in action in 1941 in Russia.
