Willie Adams

Willie Adams was a right-handed starting pitcher who played for the US at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. As a high school player Adams was taken in the lower rounds of the 1990 MLB Draft, but elected to attend Stanford. Adams was drafted again in the 1993 MLB Draft, this time in the first round (36th overall pick) by the Oakland Athletics. Adams played mostly minor league baseball as a professional, but he did pitch in parts of two seasons for the Athletics (1996-97). His MLB stat line showed a record of 6-9 with a 5.81 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 25 games pitched. Adams was traded to the Boston Red Sox organization in 1998 but never played in the Majors for them.

In the minors Adams played in Class A for the Madison Muskies (1993), Advanced Modesto A’s (1994), and the Advanced Sarasota Red Sox (1999). He moved to Double A in 1994 and played for the Huntsville Stars (1994-95), and later for the Trenton Thunder in 1999. Adams also played Rookie League ball in 1998 with the Arizona League Athletics. He played for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in 1999-2000. Adams pitched in 123 minor league games with a record of 40-34 and an ERA of 4.34.
