Biography

Jeff Weaver was a right-handed starting pitcher who played in college at Fresno State University. While in school he played for the USA National team that won a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Weaver was drafted in the second round of the 1997 MLB Draft, but stayed in school and went in the first round to the Detroit Tigers in the 1998 MLB Draft.

Weaver came up to the majors in 1999 with the Tigers, and played for them through 2002. He played with the Tigers through 2002 and then joined the New York Yankees in the middle of the 2002 season. He stayed in New York until joining the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2004.

Weaver started the 2006 season with the Anaheim Angels but joined the St. Louis Cardinals in mid-season. He helped the Cardinals win the World Series, and was the winning pitcher in the deciding game of the series. However, he signed as a free agent in 2007 with the Seattle Mariners and then developed shoulder troubles, which limited his effectiveness. He was in the minors in 2008 and then finished his career back with the Dodgers in 2009-10, ending with a record of 104 wins and 119 losses with a 4.71 ERA.

Weaver’s brother, Jered, also was a major league pitcher. Jeff Weaver later did some high school coaching in his native California.
