Biography

Romanian handball player Mircea Grabovschi represented Dinamo București and the national team during his long career. In 1974 Grabovschi was part of the Romanian team that won gold at the World Handball Championships in East Germany, with them beating the hosts 14–12 in the final. Two years later he won silver at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, scoring four goals in their 19–15 loss to the Soviet Union. He was bestowed with multiple honours for his achievements, in addition to having the sports hall of his local college named after him. Grabovschi was also a keen bridge player and finished runner-up at the Romanian championships.
