Ivan Yedeshko was a Soviet basketball legend from Belarus who is best known for throwing the inbounds pass in the 1972 München Olympic basketball final that led to a controversial winning basket for Aleksandr Belov, ending the United States’ streak of seven consecutive basketball gold medals.
Yedeshko was an eight-time Soviet National Champion. In addition to his Olympic gold medal he added a bronze at 1976 Montréal. At the FIBA World Championships (World Cup) he won gold in 1974 and a silver medal in 1978. At EuroBasket Yedeshko earned gold medals in 1971 and 1979, a silver in 1975, and a bronze in 1973.
Yedeshko later became a coach, helping the Soviet Union win gold at the 1982 FIBA World Championships. He was three-times champion of the USSR with CSKA as a coach. Domestically Yedeshko played for Spartak Minsk from 1963-70, CSKA Moskva in 1971-77 and 1979-80, and SKA Kyiv in 1977-79 and 1980-81.
