Stano Kropilák was the best Slovak basketball player of the 20th century. He began his playing career in 1972 representing Slavia SVST Bratislava. Kropilák represented Czechoslovakia at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and the 1980 Moskva Olympics, where the team finished in sixth and ninth place respectively. Kropilák also played at the 1978 and 1982 World Championships and seven editions of EuroBasket, where he won a silver medal and two bronze. Domestically Kropilák was a five-time Czechoslovakian Player of the Year and a ten-time Czechoslovakian League All-Star Five. Playing for Inter Bratislava, Kropilák won the Czechoslovakia League in 1979, 1980, 1983 and 1985. As well as playing in Czechoslovakia Kropilák also played in Belgium and Luxembourg during 1985.
Kropilák retired in 1996, going on to work for the Slovakia national team, and became the president of Inter Bratislava in 2000. In 2002 Kropilák also entered politics, sitting in parliament until 2006. In 2021 Kropilák was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame.
