Georgian Tengiz Khubuluri was one of the best half-heavyweight judokas in the world during the late 1970s. During his career Khubuluri won Olympic silver in 1980, two World titles (1979 and 1981), two European titles (1976 and 1979) and silver at the 1981 European Championships. Domestically, Khubuluri won two Soviet titles (1979 and 1982) and was named Georgian athlete of the year in 1979.
