Lightweight Harry Johnson had no major titles to his name prior to gaining selection for the 1908 Olympics. He went to the Games, however, and returned home with a bronze medal. The competition was held at Johnson’s home club, the Northampton Institute Boxing Club, and he beat the Dane Hemming Hansen, and fellow Briton Harold Holmes, before losing to another Briton, Fred Spiller, in the semi-final. Johnson again lost to Spiller in the first round of the 1909 ABA Championships.
