Biography

During his career as a modern pentathlete, Berndt Katter competed in three major international tournaments – at the 1956 Olympics, where he won bronze in team competition and was 16th in individual competition; at the 1959 World championships, where he won silver in team competition and was fifth individually; and at the 1960 Olympics, where he was fourth in the team competition and 12th individually. Domestically Katter never won a Finnish title in modern pentathlon, winning silver in 1959 and bronzes in 1958 and 1960, but he won one Finnish title in water polo. Katter also was known as a national level épée fencer and swimmer.
