Besides his Olympic silver medal, Nikolay Tatarinov was a world team champion from 1957-59. He also won an individual bronze in 1957 at the World Championships. Tatarinov never won individual Soviet title, winning silvers in 1957-60, but he was three times Soviet team champion in 1957-59. After finishing his modern pentathlete career in 1962, Tatarinov took up tennis and was quite successful in senior tournaments in his 60s and 70s. Outside of sports, Tatarinov worked with the physical education department at the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia.
