Alfredo Czerner took up rowing at the age of 14. After winning the South American Championships earlier in the year, Czerner, Jorge Arripe, Jorge Schneider, Roberto Suárez, and Juan Ecker were selected to represent Argentina in the coxed fours rowing event at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where they were eliminated in the semi-finals. Three years later, Czerner, Schneider, Ecker, and the non-Olympians Gerardo Santos and Emilio Czerner won this event at both the Pan American Games and the European Championships, with Alfredo also winning silver with the eights at the Pan Americans. Although this put them in a good position to represent their country at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, administrative disputes prevented them from attending. A carpenter by trade, he moved to the United States in 1972 and eventually settled in California as Alfred Czerner. He also worked as a rowing coach and continued to compete into his 70s.
