Thomas Musyl was born in Paris to Austrian parents. He became a rower representing Austria at the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics and partnered Harald Faderbauer in the double sculls but were eliminated in the repêchage round.
Musyl studied French and English interpretation and translation at the University of Wien (Vienna). He was later employed by an interpreter and translators’ association in Wien and worked as a conference interpreter. In February 2023 he was named president of this Austrian Professional Association for Interpreting and Translating.
