Rowing brothers Gert and Kurt Watzke were selected for the 1948 London Games to represent Austria in the coxless pairs. They were eliminated in the semi-finals. The previous year they had won the silver medal at the European Championships. Gert, a doctor by profession, died three months short of his 99th birthday in 2021.
