East German light-heavyweight boxer René Suetovius lost his first round bout against West German Markus Bott at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and was eliminated. From 1984-87, and in 1989, he won five national titles. Suetovius was a trained metal worker and later worked as a dental technician, but then returned to Oberwiesenthal where he worked as a swimming instructor in a hotel.
