Prior to her appearance at the 1984 Summer Olympics, Carol Colgan found success as a rower at West Park High School in St. Catharines, Ontario and the University of Pennsylvania. She was selected to represent Canada at the 1980 Summer Games, but stayed home due to the American-led boycott. She graduated from the Wharton School of Business in 1982 but continued to row and eventually made it to the 1984 edition where, as a member of Canada’s coxed eights crew, she missed out on a bronze medal by less than one second. She retired from active competition shortly after her Olympic appearance.
