Andreas Tews was a German boxer who won two Olympic medals. He won a flyweight silver at Seoul in 1988 representing East Germany, and gold in the featherweight division at Barcelona in 1992 representing re-unified Germany. Tews never turned professional although he had several offers. In 1985, 1987, and 1989 he won East German national titles, and 1991 and 1992 was the German champion. Tews also was the European lightweight champion in 1987.
In 1993, Tews was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award for his Olympic triumph. He later became a boxing coach at BC Traktor Schwerin.
