Ali Ibrahim took up rowing in 1990, starting out as a sculler. After competing in singles at Atlanta and Sydney, he moved to team boats for three years but returned to single sculls to compete in Athens and Beijing. He was champion of Africa, Arabia, and Egypt several times.
