During the 1970s Jean-Claude Coucardon represented France in rowing at two Olympics, competing in the coxed pairs each time. In 1972 Coucardon, Christian Durniak, and Alain Lacoste competed at the München Games, finishing fourth in their heat before being eliminated in the repêchage round. Four years later Coucardon teamed with Yves Fraisse and Antoine Gambert at the Montréal Games. This time they won their heat to advance to the semi-finals, to eventually progress to the B Final, placing ninth overall. Coucardon later became a technical staff member, in addition to competing in a cross-Atlantic row in 1992. The team of 11 rowers set out from Santa Cruz de La Palma in late March, before reaching Martinique 35 days later.
