Biography

Henry Bucknall was stroke of the Eton boat before going up to Merton College, Oxford where, in 1905 and 1906 he stroked the Oxford eight. In 1907, when President of the Oxford University Boat Club, he elected to row at number two but then reverted to stroke in the Leander crew which won the eights at the 1908 Olympics. On leaving Oxford, Bucknall joined a ship building firm in Newcastle-on-Tyne.
