Sir Guy Fison was the 3rd Baron Fison of Greenholme in Burley-in-Wharfedale, and acceded to the Baronetcy upon the death of his brother in 1948. The Baronetcy was created in 1905 by Fison’s father, Sir Frederick William Fison, who was a wealthy mill-owner and also conservative member of parliament for Doncaster.
William was educated at Eton College before going to New College, Oxford. Although he never won a rowing Blue, he rowed for New College and was bow to their eight that won the silver medal at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.
Fison served in World War I as a captain in the Royal Field Artillery and won the Military Cross (MC). He was also mentioned in dispatches. During World War II Fison served with the Royal Observer Corps in 1943-44.
