John Healey attended Oundle School before passing the University entrance examination in 1944, and going to Brasenose College, Oxford. He never rowed in the Boat Race but coxed the “B” crew in the 1949 Oxford trials. The previous year he competed at the London Olympics, as cox to the Great Britain fours, beaten in the first round by the eventual gold medallists, the United States.
