Biography

The son of a former editor of the Birmingham Post, Peter Reynolds was cox to the Oxford crew that made up the Great Britain eight at the 1960 Roma Olympics. They failed to make the final, however, after finishing second in their repêchage heat.

Reynolds was educated at Uppingham School before going to St. Edmund Hall, Oxford to study Latin, Greek, and Ancient History. He became a fine oarsman and rowed for the college before becoming a double Blue in 1960 and 1961, when Reynolds was Oxford cox on both occasions. He guided them to victory in the first of those two years with a brilliant piece of coxswaining. That same year he coxed the Oxford boat in the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley. Reynolds was captain of Boats at St. Edmund’s in 1960-61.

In 1966, Reynolds was one of the coaches of the Oxford Boat Race crew. By profession, he was a trade financier and spent time living in New York, Roma, and Tokyo, amongst other places.
