Biography

Robin Yarrow won a scholarship to Durham School when he was 13 and in 1965 went to St John’s College, Cambridge, where he joined the Lady Margaret Boat Club. A member of the University reserve crew Goldie in 1966, he was called into the first eight in 1967 when he won his Blue. He became the first Durham student to appear in the Boat Race since World War II.

Yarrow finished his education as a medical student at London University and in 1968 was in the eight, captained by Pat Wright, who won the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley and then represented Great Britain at the Mexico Olympics. During his final year at university in 1969, Yarrow formed a double sculls partnership with Matt Cooper and they went to that year’s European Championships in West Germany. Yarrow later went to the University College Hospital Medical School.
