Rower Gerlinde Doberschütz won the gold medal with the East German coxed fours at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. At World Championships, she won three silver medals, with the eights in 1985 and 1986, and coxed fours in 1987. Domestically, she won four national titles.
Gerlinde was married to Sven Doberschütz, brother of her teammate Jens Doberschütz, whose son Johannes also became a successful national rower. Gerlinde later became a biology and sports schoolteacher.
